Diana I got my chi when she was 5 mo. old. She was a barker too. I took a water squirt bottle filled with plain water. Every time she would bark, I would make the shhhhhh sound and squirt her. Always make the same sound, eventually you will only have to make the sound and they will stop cause they think the water bottle will get them again. But you have to be fast and consistent so they know that it is the barking that you don't like. I use this method of training for every bad habit my baby had. Now she is sound trained and hand signal trained. She is 6 yrs old now and very well behaved.
Stop the pawing with the same method. Sound and squirt, eventually only the sound will make it stop pawing.
