Charles & I went to Key West, FL yesterday.. We went to the old Zachery-Taylor Fort. It is not handi-cap accessible. had to walk up flights of stairs!! Bummer. It was a big disappointment. FORT POINT in San Francisco out shines it big time. http://www.nps.gov/fopo/index.htm
After that we went to town and did part of the BAR STROLL tickets we bought. 5 bars that are part of the local history. The 5 bars were where we got 1 free drink. The BAR STROLL was 30$ per person, which was a good deal as the drinks are 8-9$ each........making ours be 6$ each. So saying they were all 8$ that is 40$ X 2=80$ so we saved 20$ on the drinks. Charles and I aren't drinkers but thought it would be fun going to the different bars and sipping our way through the drinks just to enjoy the bars/ambiance & music in each. So far we have had a BLUE FISH.....good, a Mojito....really bad(the waitress was really nice, we got up to leave and when she saw we hadn't finished our drinks came to us and ask why?? we told her we did NOT like the Mojito's at all....the sweet thing said she would get us another one to replace that one free of charge.....needless to say she got a good tip, changed it for a TROPICAL STORM.....not bad. We stayed in Mallory Square for SUNSET which is a big thing there. Was a disappointment because there really weren't any clouds........no clouds......YUCKY sunset. We will go down later than we have been about 4pm ...........really hoping that the sunset today will cooperate!! Then after that do the last 3 bars we have our drink tickets for. I think doing the bars at night will be better than during the day. At the *RED FISH BLUE FISH* bar we had CRAB FRITTERS(just about all the bars serve food also) They were really good. Like a Fritter/hush puppy with crab in them. That is something I can make at home, with a little practice I can get them to taste like theirs...........maybe even better because i can/will use maybe more crab in them. I will be using the imitation crab because of the $$ they want or real crab meat so the taste maybe way off. From tasting they I told Charles that I could use the can of Salmon and they would have the same taste. I won't be doing it until we get home because I didn't bring my FRY Baby Deep Fryer. That is the small version of the Fry Daddy Deep Fryer.(got mine at walmart real cheep) It is small enough to not use lots of oil, which saves money and big enough to do 1 nice size piece of fish in it. We are sorry that we won't be here starting this next Saturday. Key West starts it's FANTASY FEST, which is rather like Mard Gras in New Orleans. Saturday they have the parade the for the next week celebrating with big street party's etc...with people in costume.......and lots of body painting. We say many examples of it yesterday. The women(most young but a few old ones...yuck). They take off their shirts with no bra and have their torso painted.........!! During the FEST we were told that they strip down to maybe a g-string and have the body painted. The men do the same. We were told that a few don't bother with the g-strings.LOL Some nudity doesn't bother me at all........hell I worked in a hospital far to mny years! We are looking for the next spot for us to go to. Somewhere in the MIAMI area. Checking out the ENCORE parks. Right now we can stay at them(all except in the Keys, for 99$ a week). Can't locate our ENCORE book so Charles has going to the office to see if they have one..hope they do. That is easier to look at than pulling them up on the web site. We bought some KEY LIME juice while in town. It has such a different taste that regular limes........ I have my stuff out to make a pie so need to get at it. Have a great day.....
