The CGC training is a good start, diff Therapy Dogs orgs have diff requirements
although it is all based on CGC requirements. TDI is one of the more legit
groups and you will be tossed out if you take your dog to stores and use the TD
to gain entry. TD are not Service Dogs so are only allowed to visit hospitals,
nursing homes etc. Also strict grooming is required, your dogs must have been
bathed before any visits and have short filed nails. I use a Dremel. This being
said many hospices will allow well behaved non TD to visit. My rescued MinPins
were obed trained to CD and went to visit my M-I-L and the staff had them visit
others. My large dogs had several titles but not TDs and went to visit an
Alzheimer's unit my g/f's hubby was in. My other guys were obed trained and
titled in the 80's and the HS I worked at took shelter pets and our personal
dogs. The TDI website has a list of test items and requirements.
