I have a 93 yr old neighbor, who is now partially blind and a bit senile, but whenever we pass her apartment and her door is open, and she sees Princess she calls out ''Beauty!" One day her aid told me that was the only word she had spoken in three days. 7 yrs ago, this same woman was walking several blocks in the heart of the cold winter and the heat of the summer to do her grocery shopping. The first time she ever saw Princess she had stopped dead in her tracks and kept calling Beauty! She can't speak English, but she sure knew that word. So on occasion on her better days, we visit and Princess sits by her chair and the woman calls her Beauty constantly while petting her. You could see the joy on her face because she never stops smiling and petting her. I can't help but wonder if she didn't have a white dog named Beauty when she was younger. The aid tried to ask her in Spanish, but the woman never replies. I am glad that Princess brightens up her day. The aid also says that she always seems to eat better after we visit.
