At that age I would feed three times a day. Leaving food down can lead to housebreaking problems. At 6 mos feed twice a day. I do give a snack in a Kong when I leave either in their crate or around the house in bookcases and hidden under tables. I pick up the food if not eaten and stick in fridge if not eaten. For a picky adult if they skip a meal I reduce the amount so they are hungry enough to finish.
