At that age I would feed three times a day. Leaving food down can lead to
housebreaking problems. At 6 mos feed twice a day. I do give a snack in a Kong
when I leave either in their crate or around the house in bookcases and hidden
under tables. I pick up the food if not eaten and stick in fridge if not eaten.
For a picky adult if they skip a meal I reduce the amount so they are hungry
enough to finish.

Ok I've gotten conflicting answers when I asked people this question.
I want to know how to best feed my Chi. here is what I have gotten

1- she's a puppy so feed her 3-4 times a day
2-put the food down and what ever isn't eaten in 15 mts pick up and save for
next time (if dry) or throw out if wet
3-she's a puppy so leave small amounts of food in her dish all day for eating

She's just under 4 months, what do you guys do
