Better to have adopted little Cody than have someone else get him who might not 
have been as good to him. 

Yes, 6 weeks is very young for a pup. I won't adopt a pup until 3 months old 
(12 weeks). They learn some socialization from their litter mates from what 
I've seen. Mom is there to help with that. Having said that, congrats :-) 
You're a lucky person for having the patience for a pup. My Minnie is a handful 
at a year. She was almost 9 months when I adopted her.
