I'm 54 also.  That's why I like adopting older dogs.  Chloe is still a puppy.  
But she does enjoy her couch time so we're doing ok.  She also doesn't really 
like the other dogs so she leaves my old ones alone.  My chis HATE having their 
nails done.  I'm sure the neighbors think I'm amputating their whole foot.  
Such drama queens!
