Seems you're taking these things a lot more seriously then we do. Perhaps you should also read Linus' book: 'Just for Fun'. I have a lot in commen with him. I also considered writing my own OS after I had seen Minix. I also did most of my programming 'for fun'. Writing disassemblers and decompilers and trying to figure out file and FS formats was part of the fun. And the funny part of having fun, is that it even pays quite well...
