A Triac is two inverse parallel SCR's on the same die, with a a shared gate lead.

line.  You should not have
that problem with your protection circuit, I hope.

For every ones future reference use real inverse parallel SCR's or Tecor's Altnistors, 
that are
inverse parallel SCR's on the same package.

Look at the dV/dT specs to see why I say this...
