Hi Syd,

A number of years ago I read in a H-P Lab Notes publication that a mix of
alcohol and houshold ammonia was ideal for super cleaning boards.  I think the
ammonia was present in 20% concentration. From experience I can tell you that
ethyl acetate is a far better solvent than alcohol to remove most organic solder
fluxes. Its considerably less toxic than the trichloroethylene that was used for
years as a flux remover and degreaser. Only problem with it is you must be sure
it doesn't dissolve any plastic component coverings! With both the ammonia and
the ethyl acetate one must use adequate ventilation.
