Gentlemen,
Thanks to all the people who answered my question on SD Ram.

We tried the ram in another machine and it worked fine so there was no fault with the board. As it was no use to our computers my son returned the chips to the store for a refund. This time he spoke to another salesman who said "This ram is for the latest mother boards. You need a board that has chips on both sides." The would not refund the money but gave him a board with 16 chips, eight on each side. This is for older mother boards. They charged another 30%.

This time the memory works fine. They could not give a technical explanation of the difference. My son is now happy but is complaining of the extra cost.

David
