Hi target group,

I was totally amazed when I went through the supermarket today: They really offer a DVD player for 69,- EUR! You've got to know that this means it includes 16% sales tax in Germany, meaning it's less than 60 EUR for the whole device. If you then substract the case, the DVD drive, remote control and manual, I'd think that the electronics is really cheap.

My main interest is playing around with MPEG video decoder chips. Who makes them? How do they take their data? What's the output - a ready-made video picture, RGB+H/V Sync? Do they also decode audio at the same time?

"playing around" with those chips means that I want to hook them to a computer as a periphal device and feed them with MPEG data. Does anyone on this list have experience with MPEG decoder chips?

ciao,
