I went at this some time ago. You need persistence to reinvent this
particular wheel. 

Basically, now there is the tuner module, controlled by the remote
control interface chip, feeding into the surface acoustic wave filter.
The tuner things are never well documented, but easy to guess your way
through, once you know

Aerial-->  Amplification -->|
                            |-->mixer --> amplifier -->out
30-100V--> Varicap diodes-->|

They have hardly changed in 40 years.

Now I've left out the agc. Work your down to that one by a process of
elimination. Many I went at run from +12V and have the supplies at one
end or the other.

You will get much better data on the control chips and the saw filters.

Try saa1290, & saa1293 as device numbers for the remote control chips. I
have the pdfs, if you have any problems.
