Solution to Senditron-question: Yesterday a visit from a former tube developing engineer who worked at Philips-Valvo for a long time brought some light into this question
Most of you were guessing right regarding the use of the tube. This is a small summary of what showed up: 1.) its NOT a voltage reference cell 2.) its not a mechanical inclination switch 3.) its a senditron tube, I got some excerpts from a Philips book on gasfilled tubes which explains how some of them work. the "normal" senditron is much larger, mine has a length of about 10 cm but they are larger otherwise. They might be seen as relatives to an ignitron at that time. My small one does not have the trigger electrode dipping in the Hg pool as seen in the literature, it has two electrodes only. If you llok at the picture of mine, http://www.wuesten.net/strange/senditron2.jpg you willsee that the bulb is pinched on both legs. Somebody has guessed already that something is missing and he was right. This tube had an external spark gap installed and when fitring this, field strenth must have been stron enough to ignite the arc in the tube. I have no idea where this spark gap assembly went to and I have not seen any pictures confirming this but its the only interpretation that makes sense. Thank you very much for all your contributions and ideas Jan from Germany. mit freundlichen Gruessen---best regards----cordialement Jan Wuesten Frag'Jan Zuerst -----Ask Jan First Dipl. Ing.
