Hi both,

Very old stuff: vacuum tubes behave very much like MOSFETs, with only 
a smaller grid parasitic capacitance. Fred's gate resistor was a grid 
resistor and we always used 1 KOhm. 

What hapens if the 5V doesn't take current? I would place a bleeder 
between source and ground. And a capacitor between the output of the 
5V regulator and ground (see datasheet 7805), for the regulator could 
became instable too.
