You see, Apple has a history of playing the field -
creating its own standards (USB being a typical case),
using multiple suppliers of key components (e.g.
voltage regulators). 
Whether it's the price of innovation, sheer marketing
(and who doesn't play that game - it's genetic, eh?),
that's for the bean counters to play with.
Us scope and meter people, we deal with reality;
volts and bolts (sorry, I get that way, sometimes).

The laptop needs a new motherboard. It's a modular
world. eBay meets its needs. Somewhere there's a tech
who defies the paradigm. God Bless him/her.
