Thanks Fred, 12 volts is fine. It's only running on three penlite batteries. I'll look for the sub. By the way where did you find the info?

Tim, you are half right. It's PNP as most germaniums are. It's specs are unimpressive... hFEmin=25. I would go with a silicon sub, say a 2N3640 (aka mps3640). Watch your collector voltage as the 3640 can only take 12V.
