If I would be you, I would open up the thing and see what's there,
even HP is cooking with water only. If the input stage is all soldered you can 
at least
check power to get started. There should be some tuner type bradband input 
stage 
with some active parts MMIC's. They only way to know will be have look.
Your are an somewhat experienced electronic engineer or ?
The schematics I believe you should be able to find, you may have to pay,
check ebay, there are lot's of offers of manuals.
