Thanks Uwe. Sometimes that's more comforting than knowing I have made a
complete ass of myself :-).

If you have a choice, try databooks from about 1990 - 1992. The batch
date was 92xx on one lot, and 93xx on the other.

I have a little more information on it. Using ASA, I am able to 'look up
the legs' of these things. I have found one dud between the 2 boards.
Here is a provisional pinout:

1. +24V 16. O/C output
2. O/C output 15. O/C output
3. O/C output 14. Input
4. Earth 13. Earth
5. Earth 12. Earth
6. +5V 11. Input
7. Input* 10. Input*
8. Input* 9. Input*

There are 2 banks of four chips. On each bank, the inputs marked with
a '*' are linked. I gather pins 7-10 are inputs for a 4 bit latch
controlled by 11 & 14. Experimenting on a chip allows me to change
levels but I didn't stay at it long enough to figure the logic. There
seems to be an enable and a clock.

Does that look famailar to anyone?
