CHODOSH UPDATES
Revised 3 Sept 00
The following information is still tentative. However, this Bulletin supercedes
the earlier Bulletins.
Freshly baked products in local bakeries such as breads, challehs, rolls,
bagels probably Chodosh starting: Sept 8 in the East and Far West, Aug 25
in the
Mid West.
Packaged foods containing wheat, other than pasta: Definitely Yoshon up to a
packing date of Aug 14. Probably Yoshon if purchased up to Sept 14. After that
package codes should be used.
Packaged pasta probably safe if packed before Oct 1, probably safe to purchase
up to Oct 15
Foods containing oats probably safe if packed up to Oct 15, probably safe to
purchase up to Oct 30.
Foods containing barley (other than malt) probably safe if packed up to Oct 23,
probably safe to purchase up to Nov 6.
Regarding oats, the only two brands that we know of that may become Chodosh in
the next few weeks are Quaker starting a packing date of Sept 1 and General
Mills starting Sept 18.
Barley information is still incomplete. The only brand of barley that we know
of thus far that will become Chodosh soon is Arrowhead barley, starting Sept 4.
This year the relevant Chodosh information is coming in slower than in earlier
years. As a result, we now project that the Guide should be printed
approximately by Sept 17. Meanwhile, we hope to keep you updated by E mail or
the Hot Line.
