CHODOSH NEWS AS OF 19 AUG 01 The Chodosh harvest is well on the way by now in all crops of interest in the USA. It is still too early to get meaningful Chodosh dates for most products. The earliest date that we have found for starting Chodosh flour milling in the Mid West was a Cargill mill that started on Aug 15. This is followed by Bay State Milling Co on Aug 29 and a ConAgra mill on Aug 27. These mills affect cities in the Mid West such as Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland. We do not yet have any information about mills along the East Coast or the West. However, we do not believe that the New York area will see any Chodosh flour before Sept 7, at the earliest. Regarding oats so far we found that General Mills (Cheerios, etc) and ConAgra will start Oct 1 or later. For barley we have no information yet. The expected publication date for the Guide is mid September. We can not make it much earlier than that date since no accurate information is available yet. However, by the time the Guide is published, some items may be Chodosh. We hope, bli neder, to issue weekly bulletins like this, to update the readers as more information is accumulated.
