Issue 2112: Chrome does not show any Update status in About box
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=2112
Comment #3 by [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
We discovered a problem with our on-demand updates on Vista when UAC had
been disabled. Chrome versions 0.2.149.27 and 0.2.149.29 (the
current version as of this writing) therefore do not allow the user to
manually initiate an update - if UAC in Vista has been disabled.
NOTE: This problem applies _only_ to manual checks for update. Chrome will
still update itself in the background once it realizes that a new
version is available (regardless of how UAC is configured).
You therefore have three options:
1) Temporarily enable UAC in Vista (you may need to reboot for that to take
effect). Then try to manually update using the About box.
2) Do nothing, and wait for Chrome to auto-update itself.
3) Uninstall and reinstall Chrome, which will install the latest version.
The next version of Chrome will allow you to update Chrome manually
(without using the above workarounds) but only as long as you have Vista
Service Pack 1 installed (or more recent service pack). We are still
looking into resolving this problem for Vista with no Service Pack
installed.
