Issue 2319: Wishlist: Hierarchical Tabs

Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
      Safari 3: FAIL
Firefox 3: OK (through "Tree Style Tabs" extension)
          IE 7: FAIL

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Browse a page (such as Google search results)
2. Open multiple links in new tabs
3. For each of those pages open a few more links in new tabs

What is the expected result?
The browser should create a hierarchy of tabs (a tree) where all new tabs
(children) opened from within the current tab are placed visually under
their parent tab. Subtrees should be collapsible and closeable (and other
actions that would make sense) as a group.

What happens instead?
Tabs are placed next to each other with no structure.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

This provides a structured browsing experience, and lets you know where you
have been and how you got to each tab. People browse inheriently in a tree
structure. You are on page A, and you see 3 cool links to related content,
so you open all 3 and then for each of those you start reading and find 3
more links, and so on. This should be mirrored in the structure of your
tabs.

This also allows you to work with your tabs as a group in a useful manner.
For example if I want to learn how to juggle, I will have a bunch of
tutorials / videos / etc. that have probably stemmed from a Google search.
I can then bookmark all of them to a folder, or if I give up on juggling,
I can easily close my entire juggling slew of tabs.

The Tree Style Tab extension for Firefox 3 impliments this functionality
supurbly (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5890), and using
it, I have had hundreds of tabs open at once (not all visible) without
feeling lost or cluttered.
