Issue 4497: "About Google Chrome" dialog box blocks other Google Chrome
windows
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=4497
New issue report by vleeshue:
Chrome Version : 0.4.154.18
URLs (if applicable) :
Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
Safari 3: <<< not applicable >>>
Firefox 3: <<< not applicable >>>
IE 7: <<< not applicable >>>
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Click on Google Chrome's Wrench Icon
2. Click on "About Google Chrome"
3. Try to access any other Google Chrome window with the "About Google
Chrome" dialog up
What is the expected result?
One should be able to access other Google Chrome windows. For example,
when filling out a new issue form, it'd be nice to read the Chrome version
while typing it in, without having to memorize it or manually type it into
another application, like notepad, then read from notepad and manually type
the version again into the new issue form.
What happens instead?
All other Google Chrome windows are inaccessible.
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
It's odd that text can't be highlighted in the "About Google Chrome" dialog
box to reduce the probability of human error. For a workaround, one can
use access "about:version" in another tab, which doesn't block other Google
Chrome windows and allows text selection. I'm actually a little surprised
that "About Google Chrome" is a dialog box and not handled via
"about:version". Only a few links need to be added to "about:version" to
handle all the dialog box functionality. The links are to (1) chromium (2)
open source software (3) terms of service (4, context-sensitive) update
google chrome. This should reduce unnecessary redundancy, unless the
dialog box style is a hard requirement.
