In general, passing Gears modules on the main thread no longer works.
Example:
var desktop = google.gears.factory.create('beta.desktop');
var notification = desktop.createNotification();
desktop.showNotification(notification);
Before, Gears would receive the original NPObject for 'notification' that
it returned
to script. Now, it receives a PluginProxy object instead.
