I have a similar problem with Chrome but only when I am on the network at work and the internet is provided through proxy. After a couple of minutes of usage on Chrome my entire network connection will stop. It is not dropping but I am not able to ping any machines on my network. As soon as I close Chrome the network connections are restored to a point where I can again ping other machines. I am going to try to disable the DNS prefetch and see if that helps.
