The problem is that Chrome is requesting the login page twice.
I don't know why it is doing that but the other browsers don't do.
I attached a file with the two requests and responses.
It seems that the second request is sent after the page is loaded. The Java
applet
needs some information sent by server to compute the password. The second
request
changes this information on the server side and the password is invalidate.
If the second request is dropped, the login works (I did that using a
proxy).
