Issue: I am having the same problem with JPGs!  They are only saved  
as "Files" and I
have to open them in Paint, delete them, and re-save them as JPGs in Paint.
Agree with spirit of these responses: It's not enough to put me off chrome  
but it is
irritating. Enough reason to stop using this browser. All of the files that  
I
download don't download as specific file types (ppt, doc, MP3, etc)
Inefficient to switch from Gmail accessed in Chrome to log into a Firefox  
browser in
order to simply download and open an attachment/file type.

Unclear how Chrome can release from Beta with this level malfunctioning.

Otherwise: excellent design and would prefer it to be my default browser.
