I understand a lot of people find this behaviour desireable but personally

with the original poster and find it absolutely AWFUL.

while it is true that other browsers act in exactly the same way, other  
browsers
don't rely on the mid-click for something else (or only recently started  
to, as is
the case with IE)... Firefox offers and option to DISABLE auto-scroll



most people don't intensively use mid-click to open tabs.. hell, most  
aren't even
aware you can do that.. I do.. and missing a link and mid-clicking the page  
makes for
poor user experience



please give us an option to kill auto-scroll :(
