I understand a lot of people find this behaviour desireable but personally I agree with the original poster and find it absolutely AWFUL. while it is true that other browsers act in exactly the same way, other browsers don't rely on the mid-click for something else (or only recently started to, as is the case with IE)... Firefox offers and option to DISABLE auto-scroll most people don't intensively use mid-click to open tabs.. hell, most aren't even aware you can do that..
