There seems to be several threads about this problem in relation to Epson printers. I have had this issue, using an Epson Photo RX425, even when not connected. If you set your default printer to something else (Maybe cute PDF if you've no other actual printer), it's fine. Of course, this is a pain, albeit minor, as you have to change your printer every time in the print popup.
