Comment #19 on issue 68 by bekkra: Allow New Tab page to be replaced by
user specified homepage
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=68

I wonder if this latter 'performance' issue can be reconsidered. If all you
want to
do is to "enter a URL for new tab", then a "Go to URL on a new TAB" GUI
element may
do what you really want, since the creation of the new TAB is only a way to
start a
new.

If what we want is to open the tab with the home page, a "Go HOME on a new
TAB"
function is satisfying.

It is always healthy to question specialized functions, but I have the idea
what to
do in the GUI for this: provide the drop-down ( menu ) additions to the
HOME and the
GO buttons. Minimal clutter, easy semantics ( although invisibility ).

So a better idea would be similar drop-down functionality for the [+]
element:
new TAB
new TAB for New Tab page
new TAB for HOME page

the last as specified by options.
