Indeed, the same problem with me Chrome 2.0.159.0 on XP SP3 :

HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to server  
configuration.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

Technical Information (for support personnel)

Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the  
words
HTTP and 401.
Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for  
topics
titled About Security, Authentication, and About Custom Error Messages.

Google Chrome   2.0.159.0 (Official Build 8621)
WebKit  528.11
V8      0.4.8.1
User Agent      Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US)  
AppleWebKit/528.11
(KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/2.0.159.0 Safari/528.11

Installed plug-ins
ActiveX Plug-in
File name: activex-shim
ActiveX Plug-in provides a shim to support ActiveX controls

..... etc...

IE 7.0 is working fine.
No proxy used or configured. Neither in IE 7.0 nor in Chrome.
