No, that is not really the right approach.
I gave you a quick example with the "alert" function, but anything that has  
quotes in it
goes wrong. Say -
var k = "nothing";
That will go wrong, too. And there are a lot of bookmarklets already and  
right now? this
way and the greasemonkey thing are the only ways to support a really light  
version of
an extension system.
It will be backwards incompatible to lock this feature now and web  
incompatible to lock
a feature that other browsers allow.
