New issue 7674 by rablaridash: Feature req: Ability to manually jump to
another instance found by find in page box
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=7674
Chrome Version : 1.0.154.36
Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
Firefox 3: OK
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open the find box and enter some text that occurs many times on the
current page.
2. Manually navigate to an instance later on the page than the second one
and click on it.
3. Click the down arrow on the find box.
What is the expected result?
The search will continue from the point selected by the user.
What happens instead?
The focus jumps /upward/ to the second instances.
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
The find box in Chrome provides more rapid access to information than
Firefox's, and potentially that of other browsers as well. It displays not
only how many instances there are of the search string on the page, but
displays where they are on the page, both by highlighting all instances in
the page area and on the scroll bar. This enables a user to rapidly jump to
the instance of the text that they are interested in by clicking on the
scroll bar, skipping over sections of the page that contain instances they
know they are are not interested in. However, the next and previous buttons
on the find box do not respond to this action appropriately.
The user needs a way to manually change the currently selected instance on
the page (highlighted in orange), other than repeatedly clicking the next
and previous buttons. For example: The user searches for a string of text
on a page, and there are 57 instances. They start clicking next, searching
for a specific instance, and reach 6 before they decide they want to skip
further down the page. To reach instance 23, they must click the next
button 17 more times. Clicking on an instance highlighted in yellow should
switch the focus to that instance, and update the find box appropriately,
displaying the selected instance's relative position on the page (23 of 57,
etc.), and causing the next and previous buttons to work as expected.
Continuing with the example, after the user clicks on instance 23, the next
button should take them to instance 24, and the previous button should take
them to instance 22.
Clicking on other text (not an instance of the search string) should set
the currently selected instance to the nearest instance previous to the
point the user clicked, so that clicking next will then find the next
instance after the point they clicked.
