yellow background highlight cannot be turned off!

This is ridiculous. I'm trying to create a site that has dark coloured text
boxes and
forms are turning butt ugly on page load.
Either allow the background colour to be overwritten by CSS, remove the
background
colour, or change the text colour to black.
