Comment #3 on issue 1521 by [email protected]: google:baseURL
unchangable and sets Google search language purely based on IP country
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1521

I'm having the same issue and it's not easy to resolve: This is where
searching from
the address bar takes me:
http://www.google.nl/search?rlz=1C1GGLS_en-USIE299IE303&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-
8&q=query
Have a look: there is no "in english" link, everything is in Dutch, which
is a
problem if you can't read that.

You can go to google.com, which will redirect to google.nl and then click
on the link
"Google.com in english" there. I've done that and tried searching from the
address
bar again: results are still in Dutch.

I tried again, setting Google to Google.com and closing all Chrome windows
and making
sure no more Chrome processes were running before starting Chrome again:
results are
still in Dutch.

1) People are traveling more and more and/or use proxies in other
countries, so there
should be a growing group of people that run into this issue.
2) It should be easy and obvious how to change this behavior, not based on
educated
guessing.

I for one am stuck with google.nl results until I find out how to fix this.
