Re: comment 9: yes, it seems that Firefox picks NTLM for some tabs and
BASIC for other tabs.  I don't know why.

Since your company proxy sends NTLM before BASIC, it seems that NTLM
should be chosen whether the browser picks the first method or the most
secure method.

I'm going to check in an experimental change to honor
   Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive
over
   Connection: close
when both response headers are present, and see if that allows
you to perform NTLM to your company proxy through Privoxy.
