You do also get this issue in Google Docs, but I assume it's due to the way gdocs handles lines. Same broken behavior occurs in Firefox. Maybe a separate bug should be filed against Chrome requesting that there be a way for an app such as Gmail or Google Docs which implements its own (superior maybe) spell-checking disable the native browser spellchecking?
