I agree with geoff.j.lawrence.  The about:version page is definitely a good  
place to
include the beta/dev info because that's the page that provides the version  
details!

That's also why the About Google Chrome popup is another good place to put  
this info
because that's the other place that provides version details.  It tells you  
about the
Google Chrome that you are using.

Conversely, I would like to ask you Glen, why you are considering to put  
this
information on the New Tab Page?  The NTP is a jump-off point for going to  
other
webpages.  Users are not looking for version details on that page.
