Certainly your current plan is an improvement on what we have now and I'm all for that. The main time the "window has since been closed" issue comes up is when you close the last tab in a window, which causes the whole window to disappear. It's much less frequent to close a tab, then later close the whole window, then try to get just that tab back; it does happen but not often at all.
