I just experienced this issue as well.... Laptop battery ran out of juice... Chrome was open after I rearranged some bookmarks... Upon restart, I opened Chrome and all bookmarks were gone... I have a backup of the bookmark file from a month ago, but bookmarks made between now and then are lost...
