Great analysis. Thanks. For Google Chrome the issue remains that the Windows version accepts the Vodafone certificate (maybe the Windows APIs repair the chain of trust?) while Chrome for OS-X does not trust the broken chain. Note that apparently Firefox on OS-X also applies a bypass. Safari on OS-X does not accept the Vodafone certificate set-up. I don't have immediate access to a Windows/Safari configuration for checking.
