Generally speaking as far as I see, chromium currently does not respect  
settings (at
least most of them), so it always starts with 'about:linux-splash' and in  
recent
build (3.0.194.0~svn20090711r20448-0ubuntu1~ucd1~jaunty) it doesn't  
remember the last
session anymore. Default browser check doesn't work either.

Try:

1. Open settings dialog
2. Set 'Home page' to new tab
3. close and reopen (it's back to 'about:linux-splash')
