Compared to issue 4974, this 15 seconds freeze occurs each time I try to
open the
option dialog box, not only for the first time, and once the dialog box is
opened
switching tabs is okay. It is not clear to me if Issue 4974 refers to the
option
menu where you have all the New Tab/Window/.../Options/.../Exit, or to the
option
dialog box (menu->Options).

15 seconds is indeed long! I tried several times, killing the process after
a while,
before trying to wait for more...
I tried a strace. I am not very familiar with strace, so I may have put the
wrong
options. The command I used is 'strace -f google-chrome 2>strace_chrome'.
First,
google chrome was very long to load, which is not the case without the
strace. I
also had a message in the terminal saying that the process was running in
32 bit
mode. Then, after a while it opened a dialog box saying the page was
unresponsive,
and proposed to kill the page, what I did. Then, it was still trying to
load the
about:linux-splash page, without success. I tried to open the option
dialog box. In
the terminal, I received a series of message saying that some processes
were running
in 32 bit mode and some others in 64 bit modes (one over two). The option
dialog box
never appears (I waited for several minutes). I xkilled the window, and
had to do
another Ctrl-c in the terminal to end the process.
