Comment #15 on issue 9873 by [email protected]: Linux new tab open perf
noticeably slower at larger browser window widths
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=9873
I don't think this has to do with any problem in the tab strip. What I've
noticed is
that the tab insertion animation is slow only when we replace the tab
contents. For
example, open this bug report as the single tab in a browser window and
open a new
tab. The animation is janky. Now open new tabs in quick succession.
You'll notice
that the tab contents (in debug mode) are constantly green because we
haven't
rendered anything yet, and the tab animation is smooth. It's about 80%
reproducible,
so sometimes you'll have to let one of those pages load before opening a
new tab to
see the jank. In summation, I don't think this correlates exactly with a
large
browser window width, and we may be janky because of the X rendering of the
tab
contents area.
