New issue 18188 by jrbrock: scrollbar keeps scrolling when mouse moves far
away and brings up context menu
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=18188
Chrome Version : 3.0.196.0
URLs (if applicable) : any page with scrollbars
Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
Safari 4:
Firefox 3.x: OK
IE 7:
IE 8: OK
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go to a page with a vertical scrollbar (I have not tested horizontal)
2. Click the scrollbar and drag it... do not release the left mouse button
3. Move the mouse far enough from the scrollbar so that it resets its
position (still holding the left mouse button)
4. Right click to bring up the context menu (without letting go of the left
mouse button)
5. Release the left mouse button
6. Dismiss the menu by clicking somewhere on the page (not on the
scrollbar)
7. Now move the mouse back to the scrollbar, and it will begin scrolling
whenever you move the mouse, even though no buttons are pressed. Clicking
the scrollbar fixes it.
What is the expected result?
Whenever the mouse button is released, the scrollbar should deactivate and
stop following the mouse.
What happens instead?
The scrollbar acts as though you are still holding the mouse button down.
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
I just tested this on scrollbars within the page (like on a textbox) and
the same problem happens. It's a very minor problem but some people might
be confused by it.
In Firefox and IE, you cannot bring up the context menu by right clicking
while you are still holding the left mouse button that was originally
pressed on a scrollbar. However, if you hold the left mouse button down on
the page contents, then right clicking does interrupt the click and bring
up the context menu. On Firefox, when you then release the left mouse
button, the click action continues (link is followed, etc), while on IE
(and Chrome) the click action is cancelled.
