Comment #3 on issue 15146 by joe.jordan86: Shortcuts to Chrome breaking in
XP
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=15146

Hi,

I can no longer re-create the issue, since I installed Chrome from the
application pack instead to solve the problem.

However, as I stated in the original bug report, I checked the path of
the .lnk target first, which is how I found out that
chrome.exe was not in Program Files.

The target was fine and pointed to an existing exe (if the link was
pointing to nowhere I would have lost both the icon
on it, as windows refreshes these each reboot, and windows would have
thrown an error saying "target does not exist"
or something when I attempted to launch it). Neither of these symptoms
happened; it was simply a problem with
either chrome not launching when it received the message, or windows not
sending the message.

Thanks for continuing to investigate it, but I fear it may be "one of those
bugs" that you rarely see and does not repeat
regularly. :S...

I have actually been able to set chrome as my default browser now (work
fixed a web app I needed to use which had a
web-kit compatibility bug, which had to be in the default browser as it was
launched automatically from another app)
so using the shortcut occurs much less frequently. also using the "launchy"
keystroke launcher was a hit :).

Cheers,

Joe
