New issue 19355 by william.furr: Google Reader "View Original" shortcut
should open in background, not foreground
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=19355

Chrome Version : 2.0.172.39
URLs (if applicable) : http://www.google.com/reader/view/
Other browsers tested: Firefox 3.5.2, IE 8
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
      Safari 4:
   Firefox 3.x: OK*
          IE 7:
          IE 8: OK*

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. View an item in Google Reader
2. Press the "v" keyboard shortcut
3.

What is the expected result?
I would like to be able to have the diverted popup window open in a
background tab, not a foreground tab.

What happens instead?
The new window opens in a foreground tab.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

I don't know that this is a defect per se, but I would like to be able to
change this behavior. I prefer to be able to open background tabs while
scanning my feeds, and then go back and view the items I had opened. In
both IE 8 and Firefox 3.5, the default behavior isn't to my liking either,
but I was able to change it in both places.

In IE 8, the default behavior is to open a new window for the Google Reader
popups. I was able to change that in the options by setting popups to go
to new tabs instead of new windows. After changing the setting, the "view
original" shortcut opens into a new tab that loads in the background.

In Firefox 3.5, the default behavior is to open a new foreground tab for
the Google Reader popups. I was able to change that by setting
browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground to true in about:config. The "secret
handshake" method isn't ideal, but acceptable.

What I don't like is not even being able to change the behavior if I want
to.
