Comment #8 on issue 19392 by phistuck: Default install experience should have different settings http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=19392
Yeah, I am with Peter. This change definitely does not make the powers of the Omnibox clear to the user. Instead, add sort of a bubble at first run that says "Type here to search (name of the search engine)". Having this text at the left side of the Omnibox does not make it visible enough. Maybe you can even use the Page Action tooltip (if it still exists) to make the user notice it. Furthermore, having google.com as the homepage by default, will make some (or a lot) of the users think you are forcing them to use Google as a search engine, it is a very 'in your face' approach. Too promotional. On the other hand, putting Google as the homepage only when you select it as your default search engine, would be kind of understandable (but you will have to put other search engines as homepages by default, too). And of course, there is the New Tab Page thing. Although, maybe having it only when you open a new tab is enough. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue.
