At least for me, (4.0.203.4 OSX 10.5.8) it seems that Some tabs can be merged, but never the last tab in any given window. I.e.: Drag a tab off of a window with several tabs. On the new window, make a new tab. Drag the original tab bak to the window it came from: A-OK! Drag the newly created tab back to the first window..
